Our School

Perfecta Montessori School offers a child-friendly learning environment in which your child can grow and develop confidently. Children are trained to model good manners at all times. Each child is also encouraged to achieve their full potential through the spectrum of activities that they will be guided through. An individual plan is made for each child, which includes their personal interests and stage of development. At inception, we had one classroom fully equipped with the necessary Montessori materials. Because of the high population we were lucky to be blessed with from inception, we had our children in their different classes where they receive their regular lessons, while they go in turns to the “Montessori lab” to work with the materials, according to their schedules.

We are happy to have transitioned to our full multi-age/multi-grade Montessori early childhood education. Our spacious classes have been fully equipped with the required Montessori learning materials and, our dear treasures now have their authentic Montessori ‘Children’s Home’!

Perfecta Montessori early years section is grouped into three categories:

  • Creche
  • Toddler classes
  • MIxed-age classes

Our Crèche caters for children aged 0-18months. Trained caregivers with a ratio of 1:5 take care of the kids. These caregivers are offer care and learning through play to the children. The children are exposed to some early years learning/play materials which help to develop their skills for eventual schoolwork. They acquire coordination, self-awareness, and community spirit.

Our toddler class caters for children aged 18months to 2 and half years old. Two trained directresses and one assistant care for and guide the children. The class usually has a population of between 20 and 23.

In the Toddler class, there is always a bounty of activity as the children play, explore, and construct their own knowledge through interactive and cooperative experiences. The different areas of the classroom encourage the children to engage in a variety of activities. Most of the materials are set up for easy access, encouraging the children to make their own choices and help themselves. The Montessori toddler materials are arranged in such a way to allow children have easy access to the different subject areas

Our mixed-age group Class of 3 years to 5 years old, has up to twenty-four children with a minimum of two qualified directresses in each class (a ratio of 1:12), and an assistant.

In the mixed age groups;

  • Classes are arranged according to the key Montessori subject areas – Practical life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Culture & Science. Geography.
  • It offers a wide range of activities to spark children’s interest, foster independence, but also enable them to learn from others and learn by helping each other.
  • Children are allowed freedom to work at their own pace, without interruption, choosing from a range of activities that are developmentally challenging and appropriate.
  • Exploration is encouraged so that children find things out for themselves, make mistakes and correct them independently.
  • There is always respect for each child as an individual personality with unique talents.
  • We encourage respect among children for others, the community and the environment.

 The Teachers (Directresses)

Our directresses are simply heartwarming and loving. They work hard to bring out the best in ALL children.  They nurture, encourage and build up the children’s sense of self esteem and independence, leaving them ready to take on the world.

At Perfecta Montessori School, our teachers are highly qualified and experienced. The qualifications vary and each has at least an NCE (Nigerian Certificate in Education) BA, BSc or B.Ed. Our directresses have undergone their Montessori training, and continue to attend further and continuous professional development programs.

Play

Play is the foundation for learning and creative problem solving. At Perfecta, we encourage good quality play to enable children learn at their highest level and be actively involved in their learning. The school is equipped with age-appropriate play gadgets which equally are educational. Apart from the staff of the school, coaches are contracted to take the children on such games as table tennis, badminton, football, dance, etc. all these equally contribute to the children’s coordination and concentration skills, while the spirit of sportsmanship is instilled in them at an early age.

 Curriculum

Our Curriculum is a Combination of Montessori Curriculum & Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is built on these four themes:

  • personal, social and emotional development.
  • communication and language.
  • physical development.
  • expressive arts and design.

Our Montessori curriculum focuses on these six areas:

  • Practical life exercises are designed to teach the child how to deal with the real-world environment. Activities such as pouring, cutting and pasting, dressing/personal grooming, grace and courtesy, etc. also help the child with a sense of order, coordination, independence and concentration.
  • Sensorial exercises: Deals with the development of the five-senses.  This helps the child learn to observe differences and similarities, to make comparisons between objects, to develop their sense of judgments, reasoning, and decision making.
  • Language exercises: Intended for oral language development. These skills eventually lead the child to reading and writing activities.
  • Mathematics: This begins with lessons intended for the youngest child and extending all the way to learning about coordinate planes, this area of the classroom starts with concrete material and gradually moves toward abstraction. As with all other parts of the environment, each child works at his/her own pace as the concepts are understood and mastered.
  • Science: Science in Montessori is known for introducing children to advanced topics in the early years, preparing them for a lifetime of discovery. Topics range from how the world began to the basic principles of astronomy, botany, chemistry, physics, and zoology. At the same time, the Montessori materials and lessons are meant to encourage a sense of wonder of the universe, the simple beauty of the physical laws, and the miracle of life. Beginning with lessons in sorting objects intended for the youngest child and extending all the way to engaging in debates about climate change, etc.
  • Cultural activities incorporate everything not listed above. This includes geography, history, art, music and movement.

In addition to these, our children equally take computer lessons where they are introduced to the basics of computer operations and programming.
